Botaniq Castle of Tura – A Cinematic Escape in the Heart of Hungary
HISTORY
Built in 1883 by Baron Zsigmond Schossberger, a leading figure in Hungarian commerce, Castle of Tura stands as a rare jewel of neo- Renaissance and neo-Baroque architecture. Designed by Gyula Bukovics, a protégé of Miklós Ybl-architect of the Hungarian State Opera-the castle was conceived not only as a residence, but as a statement of elegance and vision.
Following decades of family ownership, the castle’s fate reflectedmthe turbulent history of the region: military occupation during World War II, nationalization, and repurposing as a primary school until 1973. Like many aristocratic properties across Central and Eastern Europe-particularly those behind the Iron Curtain-Castle of Tura became a silent witness to shifting regimes and fading noble legacies. By the early 2000s, the onceglorious estate had fallen into disrepair.
In 2016, BDPST Group undertook a monumental restoration project. Over 30 months, the castle was meticulously revived, its heritage architecture brought back to life, its interiors modernized, and its surrounding gardens brought back to its glory. By summer 2020, BOTANIQ Castle of Tura was reopened as a five-star luxury hotel, ushering in a new era of grandeur and hospitality.
Today, the property is not just restored-it is transformed. The lush greenery, perfectly manicured lawns, and an elegant artificial lake create an otherworldly atmosphere. From the moment you step through the gates, you feel as though you’ve entered a cinematic dream, a setting worthy of a James Bond film. This is more than luxury-it’s an experience.

A PLACE LIKE NO OTHER
Every detail of BOTANIQ Castle tells a story. The entrance welcomes you like an unfolding scene from a period drama, framed by majestic gardens and historic charm. The reception area defies the conventions of hotel lobbies. It feels personal, intimate, like coming home. And yet, for all its grandeur, the castle is not a museum-it is meant to be lived in. Take the piano, for example-guests are warmly encouraged to sit down and play.

The entire space is purposefully interactive, inviting touch, curiosity, and engagement. The antique furniture, worn beautifully with decades of patina, seems to whisper stories of the past, as if the Schossberger family still resides there to this day.
Each of the 19 guest rooms is entirely unique, offering different aesthetics and moods. Whether you stay in a Superior room or one of the grand Schossberger or Krug suites, you’ll discover refined touches that rival the best hotels in the world-Rosewood, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton. This isn’t a phrase; it’s a feeling you take with you.
Elsewhere, one of the lounges features a design that evokes the dignified elegance of the White House’s Oval Office-a refined, presidential atmosphere perfect for quiet conversations or moments of reflection. The corridors that connect these rooms are like tunnels through
history, adorned with artwork and rich decorative elements that catch your eye at every turn. In fact, many of the decorative objects – figurines, rare books, antlers, and Chinoiserie-are reminiscent of the tradition once followed by European high society: the Grand Tour.
After graduation, it was customary for young aristocrats to embark on extended travels across Europe and beyond, seeking cultural refinement and worldly knowledge. The eclectic and often whimsical selection of objects found throughout the castle reflects that spirit of curiosity and discovery-collected souvenirs from imagined or remembered journeys, bringing a personal, almost storytelling touch to each room. And when it’s time to rest, you’ll find the serenity you seekrooms that are sanctuaries of comfort, elegance, and deep quiet.
Step into the Spa Center, and you’re greeted by an entrance that feels as if it’s been lifted from a Gladiator movie – bold, dramatic, carved in stone and shadow, offering a moment of cinematic awe even before your treatment begins.
Mornings begin with breakfast on the rooftop, offering a 360-degree view over the entire estate. Evenings might end with a private dinner under the stars. The tranquillity is total. You’re not just staying here-you’re stepping into a different world.
