Between Sky and Sea: Mamula Island by Banyan Tree

At the entrance to Boka Bay, where the Adriatic narrows into one of Europe’s most dramatic fjord-like inlets, sits Mamula Island by Banyan Tree, a meticulously renovated 19th-century fort.

A hidden gem amongst the Adriatic’s alluring pearls, the one-of-a-kind sanctuary where everything is designed to give you time to rest, move, and be.

Every morning begins the same way here: with the sea. All 32 rooms and suites offer that endless blue horizon, the rhythmic pulse of waves against stone, the salt air that fills every space. No two stays are the same. Arches and curves echo the fort’s architecture.

Colours and materials in natural palettes of sand, wood, and weathered stone settle the senses. This is luxury stripped to its essence. Just you, the Adriatic, and the elemental satisfaction of waking to something this beautiful.

The Blue Horizon

A Table By The Sea

Dining is an act of presence — to place, to season, and to each other. Mediterranean and international flavours meet the richness of local harvests. From leisurely lunches to elegant candlelit dinners, each setting offers a different mood.

Dine al fresco as twilight settles. Share small plates and laughter while the Adriatic laps in the background. Later, retreat to the speakeasy, where firelight flickers and signature cocktails bring the evening to a close.

Restore at Banyan Tree Spa

Wellbeing here is elemental. Drawing on Asian wisdom and our eight pillars of wellbeing, therapies designed to restore calm and clarity are delivered by practitioners trained at the Banyan Tree Academy.

A flotation chamber for complete sensory reset. Morning yoga as the sun climbs. A gym for those who find peace in movement, a sauna for those who find it in stillness.

This summer, go deeper. Special wellbeing retreats in partnership with Manduka transform practice into pilgrimage. The first unfolds 21st May with Nicole Martey. Next follows in August with Florence Pierre. Multi-day immersions where movement, breath, and the Adriatic converge.

Beyond The Island

Montenegro rewards curiosity. Private speedboats whisk you to Perast, where baroque palaces face mystical islets, or to UNESCO-protected Kotor, revealing its medieval heart through stone alleyways and ancient walls.

For food lovers, the Luštica Peninsula’s hidden farms serve olive oils and cheeses that define Montenegrin terroir. Lovćen National Park climbs toward the mausoleum of Njegoš, where the view stretches forever. Lake Skadar, teeming with rare birds, offers a different kind of beauty: wild, untamed, impossibly serene.

Mamula has already collected accolades. From Condé Nast Traveler’s Best New Hotels list to AHEAD Awards’ Best Suite. But the real achievement is harder to quantify: creating a place where doing nothing feels like doing everything. Where disconnection becomes the ultimate connection.
